Dark Souls developer FromSoftware have begun working on the latest sequel for the classic Crash Bandicoot series, barely a week after we saw the release of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, a remaster of the original Crash Bandicoot mainline titles. The studio was inspired by the trilogy’s review on Gamesradar, where one reviewer mused that “Crash Bandicoot has become Dark Souls”. FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki explains:
“When we first heard that a reviewer compared Crash Bandicoot to Dark Souls, at the start we could not stop laughing. Like just an hour of laughing. We would stop laughing, then look at each other and start laughing again. Then we decided to contact Naughty Dog, who also could not stop laughing. A few days later once everyone stopped laughing, we decided to approach them about obtaining a license to make our own Crash Bandicoot game”
The game promises to bring the grueling, unforgiving, and borderline unfair difficulty present in Crash Bandicoot games, and combine it with the rich world building, complex RPG mechanics, and exciting yet balanced combat system present in all of the Dark Souls games apart from Dark Souls 2.
