Digital Extremes, the hardworking independent developers and publishers of Warframe, have just announced yet another update in order to keep their player base happy. This time Warframe is taking a creepier tone with “Chains of Harrow”, as players delve into a horror filmesque story involving the mystery of dead crew members. As you explore an abandoned spacecraft, your spine will shiver at the echoing whispers of the lifeless crew.
This new story is a breath of fresh air for the old game, but it’s not the only revamp, the Earth environment will also be getting remastered. This is something veteran fans have been asking for, and just goes to show that Digital Extremes listens to their players.
With a new story and a new luscious Earth, it is only right that they provide a new Warrior. This is exactly what Warframe has done, in the way of the Harrow, a defensive character who bolsters allies. His abilities are;
–Condemn- Harrow has a range of new abilities including casting a wave of energy that chains enemies to the ground while boosting Harrow’s shield.
-Penance- This shield can then be sacrificed to go on the offensive, increasing reload speed and fire rate while converting this damage into health for Harrow.
-Thurible- Harrow’s energy can also be channeled for a supportive buff. This buff is applied to Harrow and his allies, and the more energy channeled, the longer the buff will last. Killing enemies gives allies a sudden burst of energy, and for a longer burst you need to hit headshots.
-Covenant- Put a protective energy force over teammates that converts damage they take into critical chance for anyone with the protective energy. Headshots are amplified even further.
Harrow appears to be a very support driven character that excels at improving your team’s damage, while also keeping them alive through healing and chains.
Extra weapons will also be released, like;
- Knell (pistol): Ring the death knell. Every headshot from this scoped pistol increases Critical Chance for a short period.
- Scourge (spear): Blast targets with corrosive plasma projectiles, or toss the scepter to inflict nearby enemies with an energy field that amplifies their brain waves to attract bullets.
This is going to be a massive update and looks set to change the whole game, as even the enemies are getting upgrades. The Nox is a brand new Toxin based enemy that fights with a gun that blasts toxic explosive goo. Their weakness is their glass helmet that reveals their deteriorating skin, but just because you’ve killed them, doesn’t mean they can’t kill you as they explode into a lethal cloud.
Warframe’s Chains of Harrow releases on Playstation 4 and Xbox One today.
