This title was reviewed on PS4, but is also available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

So when it comes to me gaming, there are only a few things that get in the way… The main instigator being my two kids and their TV programs. However, a new threat has emerged courtesy of developer Outright Games and Nickelodeon and it comes in the form of a console & PC game designed for the younger generation… Introducing Paw Patrol: On a Roll!

So I have changed the term “My PS4” to “The PS4” as I feel it is no longer mine and here we are with my two boys who are now the youngest additions to The Insatiable Gamer family diving into this new adventure game coming from the extremely popular TV series Paw Patrol.

The basis of the game is that you are playing as one of the 8 different paw patrol puppies in set missions that you must complete around Adventure Bay with your leader Ryder giving instructions of each mission and which pups will be involved in the mission. There are a total of 16 missions and the basis of the game is to trek through the level and collect all of the puppy treats and utilize the pups special abilities to help complete the rescue. Each level has two pups that are utilized so for my boys it was perfect for also allowing to share the game on each level.

After watching for several hours I was lucky enough to be able to sit down with the lads and get some feedback on the game and what they thought it offered:

Richard: What did you enjoy about the game?

Mr B: It’s Paw Patrol! I get to be my favourite character Marshall.

Mr L: My favourite character is Chase and I like when they use their special moves.

Mr B: I also like getting all the dog treats.

Richard: What did you find hard about the game?

Mr B: I’m really good at games, finding every dog treat was the hardest part

Mr L: It’s easy for me aye dad? I am good at Playstation games.

In all fairness, both Mr B & L have had game experience before the Paw Patrol game and as such I would ultimately say they found it maybe a bit too easy, with that in mind however Paw Patrol: On a Roll! is probably one of the best introduction games that you could put to a child who is wanting to have a turn at a game. It introduces gaming through a favourite tv program and involves puzzles and learning whilst still maintaining a gamey feel.

Lastly we always rank games here at TIG, boys ranked the game at a 7 and 8 so I will cut them down the middle and give it a 7.5. With nice colour schemes and simplicity of the game I recommend this to any family or young kids picking up their first game.

7.5

Pros

  • Consists of all the puppies from the tv series
  • 16 x adventure levels
  • Incorporates fun learning within a game
  • Great introductory game to young kids (+4)
  • Finally a game that I personally could beat 100%

Cons

  • The game is very basic so again, great for an introductory game to young children.
  • Maybe a bit too easy for any kids over 6 years old.
